What's new in the world of shoes

The Four New Season Styles You Need To Know About

The Ultra-Cool Flat – Osmen

Though we tend to lean toward heels on a night out, you can’t beat an ultra-cool flat for more casual occasions. The ballerina style gives these a cool and comfy weekend vibe, while the leopard print is completely chic and fashion-forward. As we begin to opt for darker autumnal colours, prints are great for creating a focal point on an outfit. They’re sophisticated enough for work too!

The Chunky Platform – Cabot

Want a comfy shoe that still adds a bit of height? This black lace-up style is our pick! They play into the nineties trend and act as the perfect anchor to a flouncy floral dress. We especially love these worn with a striped tee and pair of faded overalls!

The Sleek Stiletto – Pixie

These high heels with a sprinkling of diamantes are sleek, elegant and ready to party! The muted nude hue subtly elongates your legs, making it our go-to shoe for after-hours soirees, while the satin finish screams sophistication.

The Colour-Block Wedge – Brontie

Have you got a loud, exuberant sense of style? Then these colour-block wedges are for you! The bold tangerine, magenta and canary yellow hues are on trend, while the buckle adds some delicate metallic detailing. Also, the wedge heel will take you from day to night without killing your feet. Why opt for black when you can wear rainbow?

Does your skincare routine change between seasons?

Absolutely. During the cooler months, I focus on intense hydration and swap to richer night creams. In summer, my focus is still on hydration but in the form of lightweight gels, serums and lotions. All year round, I wear SPF 30 or 50. Harmful rays can penetrate glass windows so I wear sun protection even while working in my office or driving my car.

What’s your everyday makeup look?

I start with Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer. I conceal dark or red areas using MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette. Then, I add a light coverage using Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream. To stop my skin from becoming oily, I dust on a translucent powder and use Stila Convertible Colour in Gerbera or NARS Blush in Love for a dewy summer flush. Next, I use my favourite bronzer: NARS Bronzer in Laguna. I follow by adding highlights with MAC Mineralize SkinFinish in Soft & Gentle. For the eyes, I fill in brows using Benefit Brow Zings, Amy Jean Eye Couture Brow Definer Brush and Benefit Highbrow. For lashes, I’m currently obsessed with Benefit They’re Real Mascara. If I want to add definition to the eyes, I slick on Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Bronze.

What’s been your most memorable makeup faux pas?

Blonde hair circa 1999. All thanks to a product called ‘Sun-In’. Let’s not talk about it.

What’s in your travel beauty bag?

2-in-1 and mini products such as Stila’s Convertible Colour and Aesop’s mini cleansers.

What do you do in your downtime?

Spend time with my boyfriend; do reformer pilates classes at Elixr; swim at Tamarama; go out for a coffee or wine with my girlfriends; and read.

What’s your ultimate go-to shoe this summer?

A staple tan sandal, dressed up with a summer dress or dressed down with denim cut-offs and a white tee. It’s also a great way to show off your coral polished toes!

Borrowed From The Boys

Want to incorporate menswear-inspired pieces into your wardrobe? As style stars such as Kate Moss and Kirsten Dunst demonstrate so effortlessly, there’s a way to do it while maintaining a feminine edge. We’re pairing crisp shirting and sleek blazers with sexy loafers and other pairs of statement flats. We’re tomboy crazy this season!

Adding a pair of menswear-inspired shoes to a feminine ensemble instantly makes the look smarter and more chic. Opt for a pair of dapper slip-on loafers or lace-up flats such as these and wear with floral patterns or a lacy dress.

Alternatively, wear a pair of sleek and chic heels with menswear-inspired separates. We love the slightly looser fit that tomboy style offers and look to Kate Moss, Patti Smith and Diane Keaton circa Annie Hall for inspiration. Think relaxed jeans cuffed at the leg, boxy coats, thin vests, crisp shirting, boyfriend blazers and tapered, tailored trousers. Add a chunky men’s watch and satchel bag and finish off the look with these leg-lengthening heels. Are you man enough to try it for yourself?

For a more casual take on tomboy dressing, channel this season’s sporty-luxe look. We can’t go past these athletic kicks, with their sleek colourway and retro detailing, and plan to wear ours with slouchy trousers or drawstring leather shorts.

Seeing Spots

Want to instantly make your outfit a bit more glam? Just add leopard print! The statement print has transitioned from the catwalk to sidewalk, dubbed this season’s new neutral by style commentators. The look is ultra-versatile and can be worked into casual downtown cool looks or amped-up ensembles fit for Friday night. We look to these ultra-chic trendsetters for inspiration.

With animal prints, a little goes a long way. For example, the simple addition of these leopard print flats or midi heels can work to totally transform a minimal, luxe, monochrome ensemble. This chic polo fan  has the look down pat, pairing eye-catching leopard print pumps with a stark white-on-white outfit that’s perfect for summer. And how elegant does she look with that wide-brimmed topper?

Alternatively, pair this statement clutch with emerald green or striking red to create a striking evening combo fit for festival season. For evenings, add another classic – the subtle smoky eye –– to complete the look.

This season, we can’t get enough of leopard print lace-ups – and these boots are too cool to pass up. We recommend pairing with band tees and leather pants for a fashion-forward take on classic rocker style.

You can also wear the trend at work. Jazz up a crisp white shirt and spray-on skinny jeans with leopard print wedges such as these or smarten up your LBD with a pair of chic spotted ballet flats.

We Heart …

THE FILM: That Awkward Moment

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, bring on the slew of seasonal rom coms! We’re loving the trailer for this latest bromance starring heartthrob Zac Efron as a perennial commitment-phobe. The original title was Are We Officially Dating?, which well and truly resonates with us in this age of Tinder, random hook-ups and the confusing world of modern courtship! Also, we get to see Efron take his kit off!

THE IT-GIRL: Aubrey Plaza

The Parks and Recreation star wins the award for the greatest deadpan on the telly. Though she’s best known for playing sarcastic intern April Ludgate, she’s also winning hearts on the silver screen. Watch her totally kill it in the LOL-inducing To Do List.

A super high heel with cut out detailing… oh my, no wonder these are on heavy shoe rotation this month! Ultra chic and always sophisticated, we love finishing off our ensembles with high-impact monochrome accents and a bold crimson lip

THE DRINK: Rose & Rasberry Rickeys

Got your girlfriends coming over? Why not treat them to the ultimate party cocktail – the rose and raspberry rickey. To make, crush raspberries in a tall glass and muddle them up with lime juice, sparkling water, a splash or rosewater and a shot of vodka (or gin, if you’re so inclined). If you can’t find fresh berries, frozen work just as well. There’s your fruit intake for the day – kind of. Garnish with a rose petal if you’re feeling fancy.
